Each year the Festival appoints an independent panel of judges who judge the trees in 11 categories:
- Most Beautiful
- Most Traditional
- Most Creative/Unique
- Best Use of Lighting
- Best Top of Tree Display
- Best Tree Skirt Display
- Best Use of Theme
- Best Children’s Theme
- Best Tree Done by Children
- Best Mini Tree
- Best Wreaths
In addition, an 12th award is given to the tree which is, in the opinion of the judges, the Best of the Festival. Our judges are chosen for the expertise in design and the visual or graphic arts. The Festival of Trees is serious in its effort to assure that all judging is done without knowledge of the person, group or organization presenting the trees.
Our trees are judged anonymously so that the donors of all trees are not known to the judges. Only the name of the tree (not the donor of the tree) is known to the judges so that they may judge the trees according to the categories given them.
